This steel is produced by the Japanese corporation Hitachi and differs from other steels in the complete absence of carbon in its composition. Its place and functions in the molecular composition of this steel are performed by nitrogen. Nitrogen and chlorides dissolved in water (especially in sea water) do not form chemical compounds, which means that they do not lead to corrosion of steel. Salt 1 series knives are equipped with handles that are also completely unaffected by salt water. The material was nylon filled with fiberglass (FRN) - it is very light, but at the same time extremely durable. It is formed by casting, because its bidirectional textured surface is very securely held by the palm of the hand in all weather conditions.The next generation of the well-known Pacific Salt and Pacific Salt 2 series. The model is available in several versions: the blade can be satin-finished or coated with non-reflective titanium carbonitride (TiCN), the cutting edge can be either conventional or serrated.The handle remains extremely light and durable, in this version made of textured FRN.The steel also remained the same. Extremely resistant to corrosion in general, and to the effects of sea water, in particular chromium-nickel H-1.The Pacific Salt 2 line of knives uses martensitic tool steel with a high nitrogen content. The hardness is 59-60 HRC, which is achieved by heat treatment.
