Description of the Work Sharp WSGSS manual sharpener:

Guided Sharpening System is a comprehensive device designed for a full sharpening/finishing cycle. If you use an additional Upgrade Kit set of two diamond-coated plates and a plate with a glued leather strip, the functionality expands from resharpening to a different angle to superfinishing on paste.

The platform with a diamond plate has two modes. The first is rigid fixation (using a plastic carriage that rides on the steel guides of the frame), in which we get a standard stand for abrasive plates, and the second is in which the platform with the fixed plate can freely deviate to a certain (not large) angle along the central axis of the plate, which can be marked with two pegs on which the plate is attached to the platform. Due to this "rocking", metal removal occurs evenly on all surfaces of the cutting edge without the need to change the angle of inclination of the blade to the surface of the abrasive. The sharpening process, due to its simplicity, brings joy and pleasure.

Having placed the blade sideways on the guide closest to you and pressing the RK to the diamond plate, trying to maintain the given angle of inclination, we begin to lead the knife with the cutting edge forward-to-right (if you are right-handed), so that the butt of the blade is perpendicular to the central axis of the plate (movement "away from yourself"). When the flat section of the cutting edge, having passed over the abrasive, shifts to the right, and it is the turn of raising the RK to the tip, the platform with the plate begins to deviate, removing metal from the RK, while you do not need to change the overall inclination of the blade to absolute horizontal.

After sharpening one side of the knife, it is necessary to rotate the knife 180 degrees around its axis and continue the process on the opposite side of the sharpening device, as we can see in the photo and video, it is symmetrical, while moving "towards yourself".

Thus, this solution allows a beginner to perform high-quality sharpening without much risk of "screwing up" the RK on the way up to the point.

When sharpening a knife with a blade silhouette that does not provide for a smooth rise of the RK to the tip, such as an American tanto, Worncliff or chisel knife, the instructions recommend putting the device into hard lock mode.

After sharpening on diamonds, it is proposed to bring the RK to white ceramics, a plastic platform with a ceramic bar, of round cross-section (essentially the same ceramic musat), which have different notches for different tasks.

By adjusting the rotation of the ceramic rod around its axis, you can place in the working area: a) a smooth surface (identical to the white triangle), b) a surface with a small longitudinal notch, such as is made on metal musats, for stronger metal removal, c) two wide notches that form a 1.5 millimeter scar between them, for sharpening the seyreitor.

Both platforms, in addition to being attached to the frame, can be used in "manual" mode for sharpening/straightening "in the hands", separately the plates, according to the instructions, can be used for sharpening in narrow places, for example, pruners, saw teeth, etc.
